In the heart of downtown Portland, just blocks from the buzz of the Moda Center and the energy of Blazers playoff season, a unique challenge came our way — to build a removable garden center that was practical, durable, and aesthetically aligned with the local neighborhood.
And of course, it had to go up in the middle of peak downtown activity.
The team at Avos Inc. stepped up, and the result? A sleek, secure, and easily removable ornamental fence enclosure for Broadway Ace Hardware’s new seasonal garden space. Designed to blend utility with urban style, this project is now one of our favorite examples of how custom fabrication can make everyday spaces stand out.
A Garden Center Designed for Flexibility
This wasn’t your typical fence installation. The space — part of Ace Hardware’s parking lot — needed to transform seamlessly from a garden center to a clear, open lot throughout the year.
That meant creating a sturdy yet fully removable enclosure that wouldn’t compromise on appearance or functionality. It had to be secure enough for merchandise display and customer foot traffic, yet quick to disassemble when the seasons changed.
